TO BROADEN HORIZONS FOR FURTHER STUDIES, THE UNHAS DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGY HOSTS AN INFORMATION SESSION ON ITS BACHELOR’S PROGRAM AT SMAN 6 PALOPO
The Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Hasanuddin University (Unhas) held an outreach event for the Biology Undergraduate Program at SMAN 6 Palopo on Friday, September 18, 2026. This event was part of the Unhas Department of Biology’s efforts to introduce higher education in the field of biology and broaden students’ perspectives on their study options after completing high school.
The event was attended by the Acting Chair of the Biology Undergraduate Program, along with faculty members, support staff, and students from the Biology Program at FMIPA Unhas. Representing SMAN 6 Palopo were the Vice Principal, teachers, and 12th-grade students, who were the primary participants in the outreach event.
The introduction to the Biology Undergraduate Program was delivered directly by the Acting Chair of the Biology Undergraduate Program, Dr. Syahribulan, M.Si. In his presentation, he provided an in-depth overview of the Unhas Biology Undergraduate Program, covering everything from the program’s history and development to its vision and mission, as well as the profile of graduates who are expected to contribute to various fields related to biology.
In addition to introducing the program’s identity and development direction, this event also provided students with an overview of biology education at the university level. This information is expected to help 12th-grade students identify field of study options that align with their interests and potential, particularly for students interested in the natural sciences and the field of biology.
The presence of Unhas Biology faculty members, staff, and students helped create a more intimate and interactive atmosphere during the event. The students had the opportunity to get to know the academic environment of the Unhas Biology Department while gaining insight into the college experience and student life at the university.
Through this outreach event, the Department of Biology at Unhas hopes that information about the Biology Undergraduate Program will reach more prospective students, particularly high school seniors who are preparing to choose a path for higher education. This event is also part of the Department of Biology at Unhas’s commitment to introducing higher education and encouraging the younger generation to continue developing their academic potential in the fields of science and biology.
