The Japanese Literature Department of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) successfully held the 4th Webinar Series titled "Understanding Japanese Business Culture: Developing Global Mindset through Cultural Literacy" online via Zoom Meeting on Saturday (20/09).
This event presented strategic material for the development of students’ insights, particularly regarding Japanese business culture and the formation of a global mindset through cultural literacy.
On this occasion, the Head of the Japanese Literature Department of FIB Unhas, Fithyani Anwar SS MA PhD, stated that this study is particularly important for Japanese Literature students. "This topic is very important especially for students who wish to work in Japan or in Japanese companies in Indonesia. We hope this public lecture will benefit all of us," she said while officially opening the lecture.
The webinar featured Nguyen Thi Minh, a lecturer from Hanoi University, Vietnam, as the speaker. In her presentation, she explained interactively about the working culture in Japan, starting from how to introduce oneself in the workplace, the discipline and neat working habits of Japanese society, to how to build professional relationships, including the etiquette of giving and receiving business cards in Japanese business culture.
She also emphasized the importance of having at least a Japanese language proficiency certificate at level N2 for anyone wishing to work in Japan. "Japanese language proficiency at a minimum of level N2 is very important to ensure smooth communication in the workplace and to facilitate building a network of friends in Japan," she said.
According to her, good language skills not only facilitate communication but also help build friendships that are useful for sharing experiences or consulting when facing the challenges of Japan’s demanding work environment.
The webinar was enthusiastically attended by Unhas students and ran smoothly until the end of the session.
