The Bachelor’s Program in Environmental Engineering at Hasanuddin University was established on 9 February 2009 under the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia, No. 166/D/T/2009. The program officially commenced its academic operations in September 2009 under the same operational permit.

In accordance with the revised Statute of Hasanuddin University, the study program was officially transformed into the Department of Environmental Engineering on 2 August 2017, as stipulated in the Rector’s Decree No. 21492/UN4.1/KL.06/2017. Consequently, the Head of the Environmental Engineering Study Program for the 2013–2018 term was formally redesignated as the Head of the Department of Environmental Engineering under Rector’s Decree No. 21576/UN4.1/KP.15/2017. This transformation from a study program under the Department of Civil Engineering into an independent department reflects its institutional readiness to manage academic programs autonomously, supported by highly qualified human resources, expanding academic expertise, and well-developed educational and research facilities.

The program further demonstrated its academic excellence by achieving an “A” Accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) under Decree No. 2085/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/VIII/2018, valid from 1 August 2018 to 1 August 2023.

The Master’s Program in Environmental Engineering was officially established on 24 July 2019 under Rector’s Decree No. 3877/UN4.1/KEP/2019, accompanied by the Minimum Accreditation granted by BAN-PT through Decree No. 36/SK/BAN-PT/MinAkred/M/VII/2019. The program admitted its first cohort of students in the 2019/2020 Academic Year and subsequently earned a “Very Good” Accreditation from BAN-PT under Decree No. 1902/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/M/III/2022, valid from 21 March 2022 to 21 March 2027.

The curriculum of the Master’s Program was initially introduced in 2019 with a total of 41 credit units (SKS). In 2024, the curriculum underwent a comprehensive revision pursuant to Rector’s Decree No. 30/UN4.1/2023, increasing the total credits to 57 SKS. A subsequent curriculum alignment was implemented in 2025, resulting in a streamlined curriculum comprising 46 SKS.

During the 2023/2024 Academic Year, the Master’s Program enrolled 44 students and was supported by nine full-time academic staff members. Since its establishment, the program has experienced steady growth in both student enrollment and graduation rates, reflecting its increasing recognition and commitment to providing high-quality graduate education in Environmental Engineering.
