History

The Master of Mechanical Engineering Study Program (PSMTM) began organizing master's degree educational activities in March 1997. PSMTM received the Decree of the Minister of National Education, Directorate General of Higher Education regarding the establishment of the study program on August 14, 2002, with Decree number 1708/D/T/2002. Meanwhile, PSMTM's operational permit was also stipulated in decree number 2138/D/T/2008 dated July 14, 2008.

Prior to 2009, the implementation of Master's and Doctoral programs was under the Graduate School of Hasanuddin University. Afterward, the management of classes for mono-disciplinary study programs was placed under their respective faculties. Consequently, the Master of Mechanical Engineering Study Program (PSMTM) is under the Faculty of Engineering. The Graduate School only manages the admission process for new students, the graduation process for completing students, and academic quality control.

Since its establishment, PSMTM has undergone several curriculum changes. PSMTM reviews its curriculum every five years to keep up with scientific developments and the needs of society. In 2012, the PSMTM curriculum was formulated based on the demands of technological advancements and was forward-oriented. This curriculum was laboratory-oriented (Lab-Based Education/LBE) with additional pre-research materials. During that period, PSMTM was accredited with a 'B' rating by BAN-PT according to decree number 016/BAN-PT/Ak-IX/S2/IX/2011, which was valid from September 23, 2011, to September 23, 2016. In 2017, PSMTM conducted another curriculum review to strengthen and develop learning outcomes, particularly emphasizing outputs in the form of articles published in international journals. This curriculum continued to refer to the educational vision, mission, and goals that align with those of Hasanuddin University's master's education. However, in 2018, Rector's Decree No. 2784/UN4.1/KEP/2018 was issued, replacing Hasanuddin University Rector's Decree No. 18371/H4/PP.25/2011 concerning Guidelines for the Implementation of Master's Programs (S2). Thus, the PSMTM curriculum needed to be aligned with this new regulation. During this period, PSMTM was accredited 'A' by BAN-PT, valid from October 17, 2017, to October 17, 2022.

From December 21, 2022, to December 21, 2027, PSMTM is accredited with an 'Unggul' (Excellent) rating by the Independent Accreditation Agency for Engineering Study Programs of the Institution of Engineers Indonesia (LAM Teknik PII). Further curriculum changes were made following the issuance of Hasanuddin University Rector's Regulation Number 30/UN4.1/2023 concerning the implementation of master's programs at Hasanuddin University, which was aligned with the Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number 53 of 2023 concerning Higher Education Quality Assurance. Furthermore, the Mechanical Engineering Cooperation Body (BKSTM) has developed and recommended a core Mechanical Engineering curriculum for Master's programs.
