HISTORY
The Department of Archaeology FIB Unhas began its work in the world of archaeological education in Indonesia since 1980. This was marked by the establishment of the Archaeology concentration in the Department of History, Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences (FISBUD) Unhas. In line with the issuance of Unhas Rector Decree number 405/A/10.01/1984 dated July 9, 1984 concerning the Hasanuddin University Curriculum, Archaeology was then developed into an Archaeology Study Program under the Department of History and Archaeology, Faculty of Letters, Hasanuddin University.
Along with the increasing number of graduates and the increasing demands for organizational development, in 1998, the Archaeology Study Program was designated as a department based on the Decree of the Directorate of Higher Education (DIKTI) of the Ministry of Education and Culture (DEPDIKBUD), Number: 67/DIKTI/KEP/1998, dated March 3, 1998. The change in status marked a new era in the journey of Unhas Archaeology from a study program, to an independent department from the Department of History.
In 2016, there was a change of OTK at Hasanuddin University through the issuance of Rector Regulation Number: 43315/UN4.1/PP.42/2016. From this change, the Department of Archaeology changed to the Department of Archaeology. In the same year, the Department of Archaeology proposed to open an archaeology master program. After going through a tortuous process, in 2018 the Department of Archaeology officially managed two study programs, namely: Bachelor of Archaeology Program and Master of Archaeology Program. The latter is the only archaeology master program outside Java.
Hard work to continue to improve the quality of Tridharma services paid off after the Archaeology Undergraduate Program at FIB Hasanuddin University received "A" accreditation based on the Decree of the National Accreditation Board of Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 2072/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/IX/2016. This achievement is maintained in 2021 with the same predicate based on BAN-PT Decree Number: 385/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-PPJ/S/I/2022.
As if never satisfied in improving, in 2018, the Department of Archaeology participated in a quality assessment by the ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance (AUN-QA)-a quality assurance agency formed by an association of universities in Southeast Asia. Based on the results of the field assessment in 2019 by assessors from AUN-QA, the Archaeology Undergraduate Program became the first archaeology undergraduate program in Southeast Asia to be certified by AUN-QA.
