Brief History
As mandated in the Unhas Strategic Plan 2006-2010, Hasanuddin University (Unhas) has a significant responsibility to become a leading higher education institution capable of transforming Indonesian society into a 21st-century knowledge society. One of the key characteristics of the 21st century is the development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), which significantly influences a nation's progress, prosperity, and competitiveness.
With proper implementation, ICT can empower and educate society to a higher level of progress. On a micro scale, Unhas firmly believes that only through appropriate ICT can Unhas' vision and mission be realized. Therefore, developing Unhas as an ICT-Based Campus is inevitable. Proper implementation of ICT requires the campus community and its environment, especially the Unhas academic community, to master this technology as one of its core competencies. In other words, the goal of ICT development at Unhas must be directed towards supporting the achievement of Unhas' vision and mission and enhancing the role of the Unhas academic community in transforming Indonesian society into the knowledge era. At the same time, the Unhas academic community must master ICT as a competency within their respective fields.
The ICT development process at Unhas is fully directed towards achieving Unhas' vision as a center for maritime cultural development. In line with this, Unhas' ICT development direction is an ICT-Based Campus, a campus environment supported by adequate ICT services. To achieve this, it is necessary to identify programs and activities, physical facilities, and resources within an integrated ICT system. Good Unhas ICT services will enhance the role of the Unhas academic community in producing science, technology, and art, as well as content needed by society and industry. Thus, Unhas' mission as a knowledge server can be implemented effectively, efficiently, and accountably.
The primary function of the ICT-Based Campus system at Unhas is to provide integrated information, computing, and communication services to all members of the Unhas academic community and the wider community, enabling them to build an adaptive, creative, and resilient knowledge community. In practice, this system supports Unhas' core academic services, namely education, research, and community empowerment. Furthermore, it also supports the university's management information system requirements.
