SiLAb-LKF: FMIPA Unhas Educational Laboratory Specialist Innovation Wins Award at the 70th Anniversary Grand Peak Night
MAKASSAR — The Grand Peak Night of the 70th Anniversary of Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas), held with great fanfare at Baruga A.P. Pettarani Unhas on Thursday, September 10, 2026, became a special moment for Moh. Iqbal, S.TP. The Junior Educational Laboratory Specialist (PLP) at the Department of Chemistry, FMIPA Unhas, successfully won the 2nd Runner-Up award for Outstanding Educational Staff at the university level.
Iqbal earned the award through his innovation in developing a web application named SiLAb-LKF (Physical Chemistry Research and Practicum Laboratory System). This application was designed to modernize administrative governance and laboratory operations, which had previously been managed manually.
"During my duty, recording student research data, practicum assistants, and inventory tracking of equipment and chemicals was still done manually. This created efficiency and transparency issues. Through SiLAb-LKF, all data is integrated digitally," said Iqbal, who also possesses expertise in web programming (PHP) and data science (Python).
The system implemented at the Physical Chemistry Laboratory, FMIPA Unhas, brings significant positive impacts:
Student Services Integration: Simplifies student research registration, practicum group assignments, and direct access to modules.
Academic Transparency: Assists Laboratory Heads and Advisor Lecturers in monitoring student research progress, practicum grade compilations, and scientific publications.
Inventory Efficiency: Streamlines the monitoring of chemical stock as well as the condition of laboratory instruments and supporting equipment.
This achievement reinforces Unhas' commitment to encouraging innovation across all lines of educational staff to support an efficient and impactful academic ecosystem. Iqbal hopes that SiLAb-LKF can continue to be developed sustainably into an integrated online platform accessible to the entire academic community within Universitas Hasanuddin.
