The event featured Dr. Farah Akbar from the University of Edinburgh as the keynote speaker.
This public lecture served as an important academic forum for faculty, students, and language enthusiasts to understand the latest developments in artificial intelligence-based language assessment. In her presentation, Dr. Farah Akbar explained that the use of artificial intelligence in language assessment has opened new opportunities in the process of evaluating language proficiency, particularly in terms of accuracy, efficiency, consistency, and personalized feedback for learners.
Through an AI-based approach, the language assessment process no longer relies solely on conventional methods but can be enhanced by faster and more systematic analysis of linguistic data. This technology enables educators to identify error patterns, measure language skills, and provide learning recommendations that are better tailored to individual needs. However, Dr. Farah also emphasized the importance of ethical considerations, transparency, validity, and the human role in ensuring that technology is used responsibly.
The event was held with great enthusiasm. Participants actively engaged in the presentation and discussion, particularly regarding opportunities for applying AI in language learning and assessment at the university level. This public lecture also served as a significant milestone for the Faculty of Cultural Sciences at Unhas to strengthen its international academic atmosphere and promote technological literacy in the fields of applied linguistics and language education.
Through this event, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences at Hasanuddin University demonstrated its commitment to responding to advancements in science and technology, particularly in the utilization of artificial intelligence to support innovation in language learning, research, and assessment in the digital age.
