Approximately 100 Marine Engineering Students Participate in Mapping Software Training Conducted by Instructors from the Indonesian Coastal Engineering Experts Association (PARPI).

For three days, from 29 to 31 May 2025, students from the Department of Marine Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University, participated in an intensive training program on mapping software applications for marine engineering. The training utilized primary data collected directly by the students during a field survey conducted at the Hasanuddin University Research Fishpond from 23 to 25 May 2025.

The training was delivered by three instructors from the Indonesian Coastal Engineering Experts Association (PARPI): Arsil, Chofifah, and Misbahulhaq. Through this program, students were expected not only to develop practical skills in mapping software but also to gain academic credit through the Study Program Competency Enhancement Course (MKPK), as the activity involved collaboration with an external professional association.

The face-to-face training sessions totaled 27 hours, while structured assignments and independent assignments each accounted for 32 hours, resulting in a total learning workload of 91 hours, equivalent to 2 academic credits (2 SKS).

Following the three-day training, students were required to complete both structured and independent assignments under the supervision and consultation of the instructors. Upon completing all learning activities—including face-to-face instruction, structured assignments, and independent work—students were expected to be capable of analyzing tidal, topographic, and bathymetric data, as well as producing standardized contour maps. These competencies will support students in completing coursework for the Coastal Processes course in the fifth semester and the Coastal and Harbor Engineering Design course in the sixth semester.

The Head of the Department of Marine Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University, Dr. Ir. Chairul Paotonan, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the President of the Indonesian Coastal Engineering Experts Association (PARPI) for providing three qualified instructors to support the training program.

The training was organized as part of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University, and the Indonesian Coastal Engineering Experts Association (PARPI), under Agreement No. 21742/UN4.1/HK.07.00/2023 and No. 004/NK/PARPI/IX/2023, signed on 30 September 2023.

Dr. Paotonan expressed his hope that similar collaborative training programs would continue to be expanded in the future, further strengthening students' professional competencies while fostering closer partnerships between academia and professional organizations.
