History

The Bachelor's Program in Environmental Engineering at Hasanuddin University was established on February 9, 2009, under the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education No. 166/D/T/2009. The program was founded to provide undergraduate education in Environmental Engineering and admitted its first cohort of students in the 2009/2010 academic year. During its early years, the program operated under the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University.

As the discipline evolved and the demand for highly qualified environmental engineers increased, the program continuously improved its curriculum and academic quality. Curriculum revisions were carried out in 2011, 2013, and 2016 to align with advancements in science, technology, and the needs of the engineering profession. In 2017, following the revision of Hasanuddin University's Statute, the program officially became part of the Department of Environmental Engineering, strengthening its capacity to advance education, research, and community engagement in the field.

The program's commitment to academic excellence is reflected in its continuous accreditation achievements. It received "B" Accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) in 2013, followed by "A" Accreditation in 2018. In 2020, the program first earned international accreditation from the Indonesian Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (IABEE), recognizing its implementation of the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) approach. Subsequently, in 2022, the program achieved "Excellent" (Unggul) Accreditation from BAN-PT, followed by Excellent Accreditation from the Indonesian Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (LAM Teknik/LAMTEK) in 2023. In 2026, the program successfully renewed its IABEE international accreditation for the period of March 31, 2026, to March 31, 2031, reaffirming its compliance with internationally recognized standards for engineering education and its commitment to continuous quality improvement.

Today, the Bachelor's Program in Environmental Engineering at Hasanuddin University continues to grow as a center of excellence in environmental engineering education with a strong commitment to global excellence, sustainability, and the unique characteristics of the Maritime Continent. Through high-quality education, innovative research, and meaningful community engagement, the program is dedicated to producing graduates who are competent, innovative, and capable of addressing environmental challenges at the national and global levels.
