Digitalizing Management and Marketing Systems to Shorten the Livestock Supply Chain: The ICARE Community Service Program at Bolaroman Cooperative

Bolaroman, September 2026 — The Animal Husbandry Agribusiness Study Program, Vocational Faculty, Universitas Hasanuddin, carried out a community service activity through the ICARE (Integrated Corporation of Agricultural Resources Empowerment) program, themed "Digitalization of Management and Marketing Systems to Shorten the Supply Chain of Livestock Products at Bolaroman Cooperative." The activity began on September 20, 2026, and is designed as a series of mentoring stages running until October 2026.

This community service activity is led by Aprisal Nur, S.Pt., M.Si., as team leader, together with community service team members from the Animal Husbandry Agribusiness Study Program, Vocational Faculty, Universitas Hasanuddin. The program is one form of university contribution to supporting the development of the livestock sector through the application of digital technology, strengthening of cooperative institutions, and development of livestock product marketing systems.

The ICARE program aims to build the capacity of livestock farmers and cooperative managers to use digital technology, improve business management systems, and develop more effective marketing and distribution mechanisms for livestock products. Through this activity, the supply chain of livestock products is expected to be shortened, bringing benefits to farmers, cooperatives, and consumers.

The activity series opens with socialization for livestock farmers on September 20–21, 2026. The aim is to introduce the ICARE program and build understanding of why digitalization matters for managing livestock businesses and developing marketing systems. This is the first step in building farmers' understanding of, and participation in, the system to be developed.

On September 26–27, 2026, an initial Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on system development was held. The forum served to identify needs, gather input, and discuss the development of a digital system suited to the conditions and needs of the Bolaroman Cooperative. Through these discussions, system development is expected to be better targeted and to support the cooperative's operational activities.

The ICARE program continues with several mentoring agendas scheduled for October 2026. On October 3–4, 2026, an FGD on pricing and delivery is planned, focusing on mechanisms for setting prices and delivery systems for livestock products. The activity is expected to help create a more efficient and transparent distribution mechanism.

Next, on October 10–11, 2026, application training will be held to improve the capacity of farmers and cooperative managers to use digital technology. This training is an important part of supporting the implementation of app-based management and marketing systems.

On October 17–18, 2026, the program continues with cooperative institutional management training. The training focuses on improving organizational management capacity, strengthening governance, and developing cooperative institutions so they can run business activities in a more structured and sustainable way.

As a further stage, on October 24–25, 2026, digital marketing training and marketing unit development are planned. The activity aims to improve understanding of digital marketing strategies, expand market reach, and support the development of a livestock product marketing unit at the Bolaroman Cooperative.
