IMIP Becomes a “Living Laboratory” for Vocational Education; Lecturers Engage Directly with the Industrial Sector

Strengthening Industry Link and Match: Unhas Vocational School Promotes Real-World Case-Based Learning in Extractive Metallurgy

Major transformations in the industrial sector drive the Extractive Metallurgy Technology Study Program, Faculty of Vocational Studies at Hasanuddin University (Unhas) to continuously adapt to modern technological developments. Integrated industrial hubs such as the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) serve as a living laboratory where Unhas students and lecturers bridge academic theory directly with downstream industrial practices.

In strengthening this industry-based vocational education, several key focus areas are implemented:

  • Link and Match Implementation: Through internship programs and direct involvement in industrial areas, lecturers and students learn the complexities of nickel processing, automation systems, and integrated environmental management.

  • Real-World Case-Based Learning: Field experiences are brought back to Unhas Vocational classrooms and laboratories to enrich teaching materials through case studies relevant to current industry needs.

  • Triple Helix Innovation Synergy: Collaboration among Unhas academics, industry players, and the government creates mutual benefits. Industry receives academic insights for innovation, while the university gains access to operational field data.
