History

History

The Japanese Literature Study Program is an undergraduate program under the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Hasanuddin University, located at the Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar. Officially established on 28 September 2005, the program was approved by the Directorate General of Higher Education (DIKTI) through Decree No. 3157/DIT/2005. It was developed as an expansion of the Tourism Diploma (D3) Program, becoming the eighth study program within the faculty, which was then known as the Faculty of Letters.

Since its establishment, the Japanese Literature Study Program has continued to grow as an academic space dedicated to the study of Japanese language, literature, history, and culture. With a strong commitment to academic excellence and continuous quality improvement, the program has received several notable recognitions, including AUN-QA international certification in 2022 and Excellent Accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) in 2024.

To date, the Japanese Literature Study Program has produced more than 402 graduates who have pursued careers across a wide range of sectors, including education, government, research and development, and industry, both nationally and internationally. Graduates are equipped not only with academic knowledge and Japanese language proficiency, but also with cultural understanding, critical thinking skills, and the adaptability needed to thrive in a global environment.

As part of Hasanuddin University, the Japanese Literature Study Program remains committed to providing high-quality, relevant, and globally competitive education, while contributing to the development of graduates who are prepared to meet both academic and professional challenges.
