History of the Dental Therapy Program

The Faculty of Dentistry, based on the Dean's Decree No. 234/UN4.13/KEP/2020 dated September 7, 2020, established a task force for dental health vocational studies at the Faculty of Dentistry, Hasanuddin University. This initiative was supported by a recommendation from DPP PTGMI and the Dental and Oral Therapy Collegium No. 141/U/DPP.PTGMI/VII/2021 dated August 18, 2021, as well as a recommendation from the Hasanuddin University Senate No. 22569/UN4.2/TP.0.1.0.2021 dated August 18, 2021, regarding the opening of a Dental Therapy Study Program. Based on the Rector's Decision of Hasanuddin University No. 5549/UN4.1/KEP/2021 dated September 15, 2021, the Applied Bachelor Program (D-IV) in Dental Therapy was officially opened at the Faculty of Dentistry, Hasanuddin University. In 2022, due to changes in the university-level organizational and administrative burden (OTK), the Dental Therapy Study Program was transferred to the Faculty of Vocational Studies.

The objectives of establishing the Applied Bachelor Program in Dental Therapy are: to produce Dental and Oral Therapists capable of delivering hospital-based dental and oral therapy care services; to produce Dental and Oral Therapists capable of providing interprofessional collaborative services with the dental profession; to produce Dental and Oral Therapists capable of delivering dental and oral therapy care services that prioritize preventive and promotive aspects; to produce collaborative research works between lecturers and applied bachelor dental therapy students published in nationally accredited journals; to implement community service programs in the field of dental and oral health emphasizing preventive and promotive aspects; and to organize a credible, transparent, accountable, responsible, and fair study program governance system by utilizing integrated information technology.
