Initially, the Information Systems study program was named the Computer Science Study Program, which was an assignment program by the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture, based on Number 148/E.E2/DT/2014 concerning the Assignment to Establish a Study Program. This assignment letter was followed up by the leadership of Hasanuddin University, who confirmed their readiness to accept the assignment. Subsequently, the University Leadership, through the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, assigned the Department of Mathematics to prepare all the necessary documentation for the establishment of the study program, especially a Curriculum based on the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI) in accordance with Presidential Regulation No. 8 of 2012. After all requirements were declared complete and feasible for the opening of a new study program, the Directorate of Institutional Affairs of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture, issued Decree Number 163/E/O/2014 on June 10, 2014, regarding the Permit to Organize the Computer Science Study Program. The Computer Science Study Program became the third program managed by the Department of Mathematics, which previously managed the Mathematics Study Program and the Statistics Study Program. Subsequently, to manage the program, Dr. Armin Lawi, M.Eng. was appointed as the Head of the Computer Science Study Program by the Rector of Hasanuddin University based on the Rector's Decree Number 27570/UN4/KP.04/2014.

After all organizational components were in place, Hasanuddin University opened admissions for new students in the 2014/2015 academic year through the independent admission track. There were 1,858 applicants, and 65 were accepted. However, only 61 students completed the re-registration process. This first cohort used the 2014-2018 Higher Education Curriculum (KPT), which had been approved by the Senate of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Unhas, although several courses still needed their Semester Learning Plans (RPS) and teaching materials to be completed. To complete these materials, the Computer Science Study Program conducted curriculum workshops through the Study Program Capacity Development Program (PKPS) in 2015 and 2016, successfully ensuring that all courses had complete RPS and teaching materials.

Then, in 2017, Hasanuddin University, through the Quality Assurance and Educational Development Institute (LPMPP), conducted a Curriculum Alignment based on Output Based Education (OBE) for all study programs at the university. The result of this activity was the 2018-2022 Higher Education Curriculum (KPT), which was established by the Rector's Decree of Hasanuddin University Number 3923/UN4.1/KEP/2020. This KPT was implemented starting in the Fall Semester of the 2018/2019 academic year. The number of active students in the Computer Science Study Program in the Fall Semester of 2020/2021 was 312.

In 2018, the Computer Science Study Program submitted its first application for accreditation to BAN-PT and received a "B" accreditation, based on the BAN-PT Accreditation Decree No. 3475/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/XII/2018. Following the issuance of this decree, the Computer Science Study Program had graduated 103 students by June 2021.

Later, based on advice and opinions from the Directorate of Higher Education and the Association for Higher Education in Informatics and Computers (APTIKOM), it was noted that the nomenclature of "Ilmu Komputer" (Computer Science) was the same as "Teknik Informatika/Informatika" (Informatics Engineering/Informatics). Therefore, Hasanuddin University was asked to reorganize its study programs, as the university had both an Informatics Engineering Study Program and a Computer Science Study Program. Consequently, Hasanuddin University decided that Computer Science would change its name to the Information Systems Study Program, considering that Informatics Engineering had been established earlier at Hasanuddin University and had a larger student body. This name change was approved by the Rector through the issuance of the Rector's Decree of Hasanuddin University Number 452/UN4.1/KEP/2021, after receiving recommendations from the Senate of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and Commission I of the Academic Senate of Hasanuddin University. With this name change, it was necessary to adjust the 2018 KPT by substituting several Computer Science courses with core courses from Information Systems, in accordance with the Curriculum Development Guide based on OBE for the field of Informatics and Computers.

Based on the above, the Information Systems Study Program held a webinar on Information Systems on February 13, 2021, with speakers from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, represented by the Director-General of Higher Education, the Chairman of APTIKOM, and the Rector of Pradita University, Jakarta. This webinar was attended by representatives from all higher education institutions in the field of Informatics and Computers, the leadership of the Mathematics Department, the leadership of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, lecturers, students, and stakeholders from both government and private institutions. This webinar was the initial step in the process of changing the 2018 KPT, which was followed by a series of planned Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) involving the Dean, Vice Deans, Quality Assurance Group, Head of the Department, Head of the Study Program, lecturers, academic staff, and students of the Information Systems Study Program. The outcome of these FGDs was the Draft of the 2021-2025 KPT, which has received a recommendation from the senate. This 2021-2025 KPT was scheduled to be implemented in the Fall Semester of 2021/2022.
