HASANUDDIN UNIVERSITY AND COKROAMINOTO UNIVERSITY IN PALOPO STRENGTHEN THEIR ACADEMIC COLLABORATION THROUGH A PUBLIC LECTURE ON THE TUBERCULOSIS VACCINE
Hasanuddin University (Unhas) and Cokroaminoto University of Palopo (UCP) continue to strengthen their academic collaboration through public lectures featuring academics and researchers from both institutions. The event, which focused on the topic “New-Generation Tuberculosis Vaccines: Opportunities and Challenges,” was held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Cokroaminoto University of Palopo.
During the event, Prof. Dr. Rosana Agus, M.Si., a Full Professor in Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Hasanuddin University and Chair of the Doctoral Program (S3) in Biology, served as a guest speaker. Prof. Rosana Agus’s participation was part of efforts to strengthen academic networks and knowledge exchange between Unhas and Cokroaminoto University Palopo, particularly in the fields of molecular biology, health, and research development.

The public lecture was attended by faculty members, support staff, and several biology students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Unhas, as well as faculty members from the Faculty of Science at Cokroaminoto University in Palopo and students from the biology, chemistry, and physics programs. The event took place in an interactive academic setting, with a faculty member from Cokroaminoto University in Palopo serving as the moderator.

In her presentation, Prof. Rosana Agus provided a comprehensive overview of tuberculosis (TB), covering the disease’s definition, causes, and the pathogenic process that occurs in the body. The discussion then focused on various tuberculosis prevention efforts, including the importance of vaccine development as a key strategy in controlling this infectious disease.
Prof. Rosana also explained the basic concepts of vaccines and how they work to elicit an immune response in the body. Participants were introduced to the key stages and aspects of vaccine testing, as well as the progress of various research efforts related to the development of a new generation of tuberculosis vaccines. This material provided an overview of the lengthy process required to produce a vaccine that is safe, effective, and capable of providing protection against the disease.
In addition to discussing biological and scientific aspects, Prof. Rosana Agus also emphasized the role of universities in advancing research and innovation in the field of health. According to her, universities hold a strategic position in producing research that can address various public health issues, while simultaneously developing human resources with expertise in science and research.

The presentation on the new-generation tuberculosis vaccine received a positive response from the participants. This was evident from the enthusiasm shown by faculty members and students as they followed the material and asked various questions during the discussion session. The interaction that took place demonstrated the participants’ interest in vaccine research developments, the vaccine’s mechanism of action, and opportunities for research development within the university setting.
It is hoped that this public lecture will not only serve as a forum for sharing knowledge and the latest research developments but also help expand the academic network between Hasanuddin University and Cokroaminoto University in Palopo. It is expected that this type of collaboration will continue to be developed through various forms of academic and research activities, thereby contributing to the strengthening of human resource capacity and the advancement of science, particularly in the fields of molecular biology and health.
