TO EXPAND DOCTORAL STUDY OPPORTUNITIES, THE UNHAS DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGY INTRODUCES A DOCTORAL PROGRAM IN BIOLOGY AT COKROAMINOTO UNIVERSITY IN PALOPO

The Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Hasanuddin University (Unhas) once again strengthened its academic network through an outreach event for the Doctoral Program in Biology (Ph.D. in Biology) at Cokroaminoto University Palopo (UC Palopo) on Saturday, September 19, 2026. This event was part of an effort to introduce educational opportunities at the doctoral level while providing information on competency development and research in the field of biology.

The outreach event was attended by members of the academic community from both institutions. Representing Hasanuddin University were the Associate Dean II of FMIPA Unhas, the Acting Chair of the Biology Undergraduate Program, the Acting Chair of the Biology Master’s Program, the Chair of the Biology Doctoral Program, faculty members and staff from the Department of Biology at FMIPA Unhas, as well as a number of students from the Biology undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs. Meanwhile, Cokroaminoto University of Palopo was represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Science, the heads of study programs, and students from the Bachelor’s Program in Biology.

The event began with opening remarks by the Second Associate Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Hasanuddin University, Dr. Nur Haedar, M.Si. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of human resource development through advancing educational levels, particularly doctoral education, which plays a strategic role in strengthening academic and research capacity. This information session is expected to provide the UC Palopo academic community with a broader understanding of opportunities to pursue doctoral studies at Hasanuddin University.

The introduction and presentation of the Unhas Doctoral Program in Biology were delivered directly by the Chair of the Doctoral Program in Biology, Prof. Dr. Rosana Agus, M.Si. In her presentation, she provided an overview of the Doctoral Program in Biology, covering the program’s development direction, vision and mission, objectives, and the goals to be achieved. This explanation provided participants with information regarding the characteristics of doctoral education as well as the academic environment fostered within the Unhas Doctoral Program in Biology.

Prof. Dr. Rosana Agus, M.Si., also outlined various opportunities that prospective students can utilize to develop their academic competencies and research capabilities. Information regarding fields of study and research was a key component of the information session, given that doctoral education prioritizes research as a central component in scientific advancement and academic contribution.

Through this event, the Department of Biology at Unhas sought to provide broader access to information for members of the academic community at Cokroaminoto University in Palopo who are interested in pursuing doctoral studies. In addition to introducing the Biology Ph.D. Program, the event also served as a forum for building communication and strengthening academic ties between the two universities.

The event took place in a warm and enthusiastic atmosphere among the participants. The outreach series then concluded with a group photo involving administrators, faculty members, support staff, and students from Hasanuddin University and Cokroaminoto University in Palopo. This moment also served as part of an effort to strengthen ties and academic networks between the institutions in support of the development of higher education and research in the field of biology.
