Unhas Graduate School of Biology Welcomes New Students, Fosters Academic and Research Enthusiasm

The Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Hasanuddin University, warmly welcomed the new students of the Biology Graduate Program at the Master’s (S2) and Doctoral (S3) levels for the 2026/2027 academic year. The welcome event, held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, in the Biology Department Meeting Room, served as a starting point for the new students to become more familiar with the academic environment while building enthusiasm for pursuing their graduate studies.

The event was attended by the Chair of the Department of Biology, the Department Secretary, the Chair of the Master’s Program in Biology, the Chair of the Doctoral Program in Biology, faculty members, administrative staff, and new students in the Master’s and Doctoral Programs in Biology.

On this occasion, the Chair of the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Unhas, Dr. Magdalena Litaay, M.Sc., extended a warm welcome to all new students and provided a brief overview of the Department of Biology’s profile and academic environment. In her remarks, she also expressed her hope that the students would conduct innovative and relevant research that contributes to the advancement of science during their graduate studies. The event then continued with an introduction to the faculty of the Biology Graduate Program, presented by Dr. Mustika Tuwo, M.Si., so that students could get to know the professors who will guide their academic and research journeys. Next, the Chair of the Biology Ph.D. Program, Prof. Dr. Rosana Agus, M.Si., explained the curriculum and various aspects of the learning process at the doctoral level to help students prepare for their academic journey.

During the event, new students in the Biology Graduate Program were also given the opportunity to introduce themselves—sharing their names, undergraduate majors, and hometowns. This introductory session took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, providing a space for students to get to know one another and build relationships from the very start of their studies. It is hoped that the spirit of togetherness fostered through this welcome event will serve as the foundation for creating a supportive, collaborative, and inclusive academic environment. With the support of the Biology Department’s academic community, new students are expected to gain greater confidence in developing their potential, broadening their horizons, and actively contributing to academic and research activities throughout their time in the Biology Graduate Program.
