BARANI Holds Core Talks on the 2026 Economic Census, Discussing Digital Business Development

Makassar - The Statistics Corner of Hasanuddin University held the BARANI: Bicara Data dan Insight Seputar Statistik (Talking Data and Insights on Statistics) activity on Friday, June 26, 2026. The activity, conducted online via Zoom Meeting, raised the topic of Core Talks: Economic Census with the theme "Ngonten, Affiliate, Jualan Online: Apa Bisnismu Masuk Sensus Ekonomi 2026?" (Content Creation, Affiliate, Online Selling: Does Your Business Count in the 2026 Economic Census?)
The activity began with a welcome speech from the Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics of South Sulawesi Province, represented by the Chair of the Economic Census Implementation, Prayitno, S.ST. Subsequently, the activity was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Hasanuddin University, Dr. Sci. Muhammad Zakir, M.Si.
In his remarks, the BPS of South Sulawesi Province conveyed the importance of implementing the 2026 Economic Census to produce complete and accurate data on the development of economic activities in Indonesia. The data collection covers not only conventional businesses but also various forms of businesses that have grown through social media, marketplaces, and digital platforms.
The Dean of FMIPA Hasanuddin University in his address welcomed the implementation of the BARANI activity as a means of education and improving statistical literacy for students and the community. The collaboration between universities and BPS is considered to have an important role in expanding public understanding of data usage and supporting the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census.
Through the theme raised, participants gained an understanding of the position of various digital economic activities, such as content creation, affiliate marketing, and online selling, within the scope of economic data collection. Technological developments have given rise to various new business models that do not always have a physical place of business, but still carry out production, promotion, sales, and economic transaction activities.
This activity also featured a sharing session with digital business practitioners. In this session, participants gained insight into the process of building a business through digital platforms, the opportunities that can be leveraged, and the challenges faced in developing a business amidst changing technology and consumer behavior.
BARANI is an activity designed as a discussion space regarding data, statistics, and various current issues close to people's lives. The material delivery is packaged in a communicative manner so that statistical information can be understood and utilized by participants from various backgrounds.
Through the implementation of this Core Talks, the Statistics Corner of Hasanuddin University hopes that the public will increasingly understand that digital economic activities are also an important part of the national economic structure. The active participation of business actors in the 2026 Economic Census is needed to produce representative data as a basis for development planning and policy making.
