History

History

The Department of Mining Engineering is one of the 13 departments within the Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University. The department was officially established on 2 August 2017 under Rector's Decree No. 21492/UN4.1/KL.06/2017 concerning the establishment of the Department of Mining Engineering. Since its establishment, the department has managed one undergraduate study programme (Bachelor's Degree), which was originally established on 9 March 2004 under Study Programme Establishment Decree No. 01116/D/T/2004.

The initiative to establish the Master's Programme in Mining Engineering began in 2019. At that time, only three universities in Indonesia offered a Master's Programme in Mining Engineering: the Bandung Institute of Technology (Bandung), Universitas Pembangunan Nasional "Veteran" Yogyakarta (Yogyakarta), and Sriwijaya University (Palembang). In 2020, the Master's Programme in Mining Engineering at Hasanuddin University was officially established under Opening Decree No. 1502/UN4.1/KEP/2020, dated 10 March 2020, signed by the Rector of Hasanuddin University, Professor Dwia Ariestina Pulubuhu.

The programme was granted initial accreditation by the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (BAN-PT) under Decree No. 3626/BAN-PT/LL/2020. Student admissions commenced in the first semester of the 2020/2021 academic year. Subsequently, the programme received a Good accreditation rating from BAN-PT, as stipulated in Decree No. 6585/SK/BAN-PT/Ak/M/IX/2022, which remains valid until 27 September 2027.
