Internship Program for Students of the Department of History, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Hasanuddin University, in Java
As part of its efforts to develop skills and practical experience for students, the Department of History, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Hasanuddin University (Unhas), implemented an internship program for students at various partner institutions, including Fort Vredeburg Yogyakarta, the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Library, and other institutions across South Sulawesi and Java. This internship program also forms part of the mandatory 20-credit Competency Strengthening Course (MKPK) for students in the Department of History.
On January 7, 2026, the program began with a visit to Fort Vredeburg in Yogyakarta, where representatives from the Department of History, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Hasanuddin University (Unhas) accompanied 11 students who would be interning at Fort Vredeburg. During an audience with representatives from Fort Vredeburg, Unhas expressed their hope that this internship program would be a positive first step and open up opportunities for strategic partnerships between the Department of History, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Hasanuddin University, and Fort Vredeburg for future internship programs.

Dr. Muslimin A.R. Effendy, M.A., and Fajar Sidiq Limola, S.S., M.Hum. Also present were Drs. Dias Pradadimara, M.S., who helped ensure the smooth handover of the students.
During their internship at Fort Vredeburg, students will be placed in various departments, including service, tour guides, and other roles. These students are expected to significantly contribute to developing their skills while improving the quality of services at Fort Vredeburg. Fort Vredeburg welcomed the students from the Department of History, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Hasanuddin University, and hoped that this internship program would be the beginning of a long-term and mutually beneficial partnership.
On the same day, the Department of History, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Hasanuddin University, also met with the Head of the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Library to symbolically hand over the four students who will be interning at the library. The students will be placed in various departments, including the Information Desk, Repository, Circulation, Public Relations, Archives, and Rare Collections. This internship program is expected to provide valuable experience in managing and maintaining collections and providing information services in libraries.
In addition, two students from the Department of History, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Hasanuddin University, will also undertake internships at the Jember Library and Archives Office and the Sangira Museum of Early Man, respectively. These internships will provide additional experience in managing archives and historical collections.
This internship program, in addition to Java, also involves internship partners across South Sulawesi, including eight other institutions that are strategic partners of the Department of History. These partners provide extensive opportunities for students to engage in various aspects of history, culture, and archive management, enriching their experiences.
As outputs of this internship program, students will produce various works such as magazines, archive digitization, historical narratives, and other products that are expected to positively contribute to both student skill development and improved services and documentation at the internship partners.
Through this internship program, the Department of History, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Hasanuddin University, hopes to build stronger partnerships with Fort Vredeburg, the Gadjah Mada University Library, and various other partner institutions in South Sulawesi and Java. This internship program is also part of the implementation of the 20-credit compulsory Competency Strengthening Course (MKPK), which provides useful practical experience for students and supports the development of the education sector at the national and international levels.
