Department of Statistics Welcomes New Students (Class of 2026)

The Department of Statistics welcomed new students of the 2026 Undergraduate (S1) Statistics Study Program through the Campus Life Orientation Program for New Students (PKKMB), held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the Ballroom of the Department of Statistics.

This event serves as an early milestone for new students to become better acquainted with the academic environment, learning culture, and student life within the Department of Statistics. PKKMB also provides a space to build camaraderie while preparing new students to adapt and undergo higher education with a spirit of learning, critical thinking, and a commitment to continuous self-development.

Carrying the theme "Capturing Meaning from Data, Realizing Real Action Together through Statistics," this event emphasizes that statistics is not merely about numbers and data processing. More than that, statistics plays an important role in producing meaningful information, supporting data-driven decision-making, and providing solutions to various real-world problems in society.

One of the highlights of this year's S1 Statistics PKKMB was a sharing session with alumni and outstanding students. This session gave new students the opportunity to gain firsthand insight into the journey of being a student, opportunities for self-development, and the application of statistical competencies after entering the workforce.

The alumni sharing session featured Suliadin, S.Si., M.Si., a Statistics alumnus currently working in the industry at Kalla Group. Through this session, new students gained perspective on the journey of a Statistics graduate entering the professional world and how the competencies acquired during their studies can serve as a foundation for facing the needs and challenges of the industry.

The presence of alumni who have built careers in industry also gave new students the opportunity to see that statistical competencies have broad applications. The ability to understand data, conduct analysis, think logically, and make evidence-based decisions is a competency increasingly needed across various work sectors.

In addition to gaining insights from alumni, new students also took part in a sharing session with outstanding students, namely Rifhky Afrishal, La Ode Abdul Aziz, Nurfadillah, and Andi Febrianti. These outstanding students shared their experiences in self-development throughout their studies, as well as the various opportunities students can take advantage of to build capacity and achieve accomplishments.

Through these sharing sessions, new students are expected to gain motivation to not only focus on academic activities in the classroom, but also actively develop their skills, build networks, participate in various positive activities, and make the most of the opportunities available during their time as students.

This series of PKKMB activities also reflects the continuity of the journey within the Statistics community — from new students, to active and outstanding students, to alumni who have applied their competencies in the industry. This interaction is expected to give new students a more complete picture of the various opportunities they can pursue during and after completing their education in the S1 Statistics Study Program.

Through this event, the Department of Statistics hopes that the 2026 batch of new students can begin their academic journey with enthusiasm, curiosity, and the courage to keep learning and growing. Students are also expected to build a collaborative, innovative, and integrity-driven academic culture, and to produce various achievements and positive contributions to society.
