Environmental Engineering Students Explore Occupational Health and Safety Practices Through Field Trip to PT Tirta Fresindo Jaya

Gowa, September 11, 2026 — Students of the Undergraduate Environmental Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University, participated in a field trip as part of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Management course at PT Tirta Fresindo Jaya – Makassar (Mayora Group), Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi.
The field trip was held on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. WITA and was attended by 104 students, accompanied by Dr.Eng. Ir. Irwan Ridwan Rahim, S.T., M.T. The activity was organized as part of the learning process to provide students with direct exposure to the implementation of occupational health and safety practices in an industrial setting.
Through this field trip, students had the opportunity to connect the concepts and materials discussed in the classroom with their practical application in the industrial environment. Field-based learning also provided students with a broader understanding of the importance of OHS management in creating a safe, healthy, and well-managed workplace.
The visit to PT Tirta Fresindo Jaya provided valuable insights into the implementation of occupational health and safety within an industrial context. It also allowed students to gain a better understanding of the challenges and practical considerations involved in managing workplace health and safety.
As part of the Environmental Engineering curriculum, this field trip served as a contextual learning experience that complemented classroom instruction. It is expected to strengthen students’ understanding of OHS principles while developing competencies relevant to professional practice and the needs of the industrial sector.
Through this activity, students are expected to gain not only theoretical knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Management but also practical perspectives that can support their readiness to contribute to safe, healthy, and sustainable working environments in the future.
