UTM Lecturer Shares Insights on AI and Human Intelligence in Guest Lecture at Hasanuddin University
Gowa, September 2, 2026 — The Department of Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University (FT-UH), hosted a Guest Lecture titled “Enhancing Quality and Innovation for a Sustainable Higher Education Ecosystem: AI & HI in Enhancing Sustainable-D Indicator” on September 2, 2026. The event was held at the 1st Floor of the CSA Building, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University, and attended by 106 Environmental Engineering students.
The guest lecture featured Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Fadhil Bin Md Din, a lecturer from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), as the invited speaker. In his presentation, Prof. Mohd Fadhil explored the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Human Intelligence (HI) in enhancing quality, fostering innovation, and supporting the development of a sustainable higher education ecosystem.
The session highlighted the importance of balancing technological advancement with human capabilities in responding to the evolving landscape of higher education. While AI offers significant opportunities to improve efficiency and innovation, human intelligence remains essential in critical thinking, creativity, decision-making, and ensuring that technological development aligns with sustainability principles.
The participation of 106 Environmental Engineering students provided an opportunity for students to broaden their academic perspectives and gain insights into emerging trends at the intersection of technology, education, and sustainability. The session also encouraged academic exchange and direct interaction between students and an international academic from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
The Guest Lecture was part of the series of activities leading up to IC-REST 2026 (International Conference on Research in Engineering and Science Technology, the 4th edition of the international conference. The conference series serves as a platform for knowledge exchange, academic collaboration, and the strengthening of international networks in engineering and science technology.
Through initiatives such as this Guest Lecture, the Department of Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University, continues to strengthen its commitment to providing students with international academic exposure while fostering an educational environment that embraces innovation, collaboration, and sustainability.
