Unhas Food Agribusiness Welcomes New Students Through Study Program PKKMB

Makassar — Becoming a new university student always means getting acquainted with many things at almost the same time. A new environment, lecturers who are still unfamiliar, an academic system that may feel foreign, and new people who may eventually become companions throughout the years of study.

That atmosphere could be felt during the Study Program level Introduction to Campus Life for New Students, or PKKMB, held by the Applied Bachelor’s Program in Food Agribusiness, Faculty of Vocational Studies, Universitas Hasanuddin.

The activity continued a series of PKKMB programs previously attended by the students at the Universitas Hasanuddin level on August 11, 2026, followed by the Faculty of Vocational Studies PKKMB on August 12, 2026, at Hotel Unhas. After becoming familiar with the university and faculty, the new students were invited to take a closer look at the study program that will become part of their daily lives throughout college.

The program began with an opening session and remarks from the Food Agribusiness Study Program. The introduction then moved to things the students will frequently encounter during their academic journey, including lecturers and education staff, facilities and infrastructure, as well as the study program environment.

The new students were also introduced to the credit system, study duration, academic information system, academic advisors, academic calendar, and various academic responsibilities that will eventually become part of their university life.

But campus life, of course, does not take place only inside the classroom.

Various student achievements, both academic and nonacademic, were also presented. The new students were introduced to Himagrian, the student organization at the study program level, including its management structure, membership process, and activities. As they prepared to begin their studies, the students also received assistance in completing their Study Plan Card, or KRS.

One session that drew particular attention focused on ethics, competencies, and career prospects. The session also featured Silfana, a member of the first Food Agribusiness cohort in 2022 who has recently completed her studies and is now working as a Social Media Specialist at a company. Her presence made the picture of life after graduation feel a little closer to the new students.

Silfana shared stories from the period when the Food Agribusiness Study Program was still based at the Soppeng Campus. As the first cohort, the class of 2022 spent the longest period studying there. The 2023 and 2024 cohorts also experienced campus life in Soppeng before Food Agribusiness classes began taking place in Tamalanrea, Makassar, starting with the 2025 cohort.

Although studying far from Makassar came with a different experience, Silfana remembered her time in Soppeng as an enjoyable chapter that she would miss. It was also during those years that she took part in many activities as a student. One of the experiences she shared was the opportunity to join the Merdeka Student Exchange Program at IPB University for one semester.

The new students appeared enthusiastic as they listened. It was not simply because she spoke about finding a job after graduation, but because the story came from someone who, not long ago, had been standing where they are now.

Between the academic sessions, the PKKMB atmosphere became more relaxed through a Food Agribusiness quiz and entertainment activities. Student creativity also found its place through their handmade hats, with recognition given to participants whose designs stood out.

The program eventually came to a close with a prayer, documentation, and a group photo.

In the end, the study program level PKKMB became more than an introductory agenda. There was an academic system that slowly began to make sense, a new environment that started to feel more familiar, an organization that could become another place to learn, and stories from students and alumni that offered a glimpse of the many experiences university life might bring.

Their classes may not have truly begun yet. But on that day, the new students had at least started to know a little more closely the place that will become part of their journey for the next several years.
