From the Classroom to the Flour Industry: Six Unhas Vocational Students Complete Internships at PT Eastern Pearl Flour Mills
Makassar, October 1, 2026 — Some lessons become clearer when students experience the workplace firsthand. For six students from the 2023 cohort of the Applied Bachelor’s Degree Program in Food Agribusiness at Universitas Hasanuddin, an internship at PT Eastern Pearl Flour Mills offered that opportunity. On Thursday, October 1, 2026, they marked the completion of their placement with a final presentation seminar and a formal closing of the internship program.
Held in the company’s meeting room and attended by company executives, the seminar gave students an opportunity to present the outcomes of their internships in the flour processing industry. Their presentations brought practical workplace experience into an academic setting, connecting what they had learned on campus with its application in industry.

The seminar also provided a forum for reviewing the students’ progress and considering how their competencies aligned with workplace expectations. As part of the program’s academic assessment, it encouraged students to reflect on the knowledge and skills they had developed throughout their placement.
The discussion extended beyond the completion of the internship. Following up on an earlier meeting, representatives of the study program and the company discussed plans to determine internship sites that could also serve as locations for the students’ final projects.
This discussion highlighted the potential for workplace experience to inform academic research. Observations and insights gained during the internship could help students develop final projects grounded in the realities and needs of the industry. Their understanding of production processes and the working environment could, in turn, provide a foundation for identifying relevant questions for further study.
The seminar and the formal conclusion of the placement were reported to the Head of the Study Program and the internship coordinator as part of the program’s accountability procedures. The event concluded with a group photograph of the students and company executives.
For vocational education, collaboration with industry plays an essential role in preparing students for professional practice. The partnership between Universitas Hasanuddin and PT Eastern Pearl Flour Mills provided opportunities to strengthen technical skills, gain insight into production processes, and become more familiar with workplace expectations.
On October 1, the six students completed an important stage of their education. The experience they gained will support their next steps as they develop their final projects and prepare to enter professional life.
