BDLP Students Participate in Integrated Field Practice at Leading Fisheries and Aquaculture Institutions in Barru

Barru, June 6, 2026 — The Applied Bachelor Program in Marine and Coastal Aquaculture (BDLP), Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University, conducted an Integrated Field Practice Program on Saturday, June 6, 2026. The activity involved first-year students (Class of 2025) and third-year students (Class of 2023), accompanied by the Head of the Study Program and several course instructors.

The field practice was carried out at three strategic locations that serve as learning partners of the BDLP Study Program: PT. Timur Otsuki Mutiara, IPU BRPBAPPP Siddo, and PT. Esaputlii Prakarsa Utama. These locations were selected to provide students with direct exposure to technologies and management practices applied in the fisheries and aquaculture industry.

The program was designed to introduce first-year students to the world of business and industry, while providing third-year students with opportunities to apply the theories and practical skills they have acquired throughout their studies. Through direct interaction with industry practitioners and aquaculture professionals, students gained valuable insights into production processes, business management, and the challenges faced by the modern aquaculture sector.

Throughout the activity, students participated in a series of practical exercises integrated with several courses, including Aquatic Animal Physiology, Aquaculture Site Suitability Analysis, Aquaculture Soil Analysis, Hatchery Biosecurity, Smart Aquaculture Applications, and Communication and Extension Services.

At the aquaculture and hatchery facilities, students observed environmental conditions, water and soil quality parameters, biosecurity implementation, and the application of technology to improve production efficiency. They also engaged in discussions with industry managers regarding business development strategies, production management, and technological innovations in aquaculture operations.

The Head of the BDLP Study Program stated that the Integrated Field Practice Program represents a form of experiential learning and case study, which is a key characteristic of vocational education. Through this activity, students not only strengthen their theoretical understanding but also gain firsthand experience of how science and technology are applied in real-world aquaculture settings.

This program is expected to enhance students’ technical competencies, analytical abilities, and communication skills in preparation for their future careers. Furthermore, the field practice strengthens collaboration between the BDLP Study Program and fisheries institutions and industries in supporting the development of highly qualified and industry-ready human resources.

Through this Integrated Field Practice Program, the BDLP Study Program, Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University, reaffirms its commitment to producing competent, adaptive, and professional graduates capable of meeting the evolving demands of the fisheries and aquaculture sectors.
