Chinese Investors Visit Selayar to Discuss Fish Processing Investment Plans
Selayar, January 6, 2026 — The Selayar Islands Regency welcomed a visit from Chinese investors to explore investment plans in the fisheries processing sector. The visit was led by PT Crown Seafood Indonesia, a company engaged in the processing and trading of fishery products.
The group of investors was welcomed by the Regent of the Selayar Islands and the Deputy Regent. The meeting was attended by the Bontoharu Sub-district Head, the Bontosunggu Village Head, fisheries extension officers from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), and representatives of local fishermen. This meeting served as an initial forum to discuss potential investment collaborations aimed at strengthening the local fisheries value chain.
The meeting discussed various opportunities for developing fish processing businesses in Selayar, ranging from the availability of raw materials from fishermen's catches, post-harvest handling systems, to the readiness of human resources and supporting infrastructure. The local government expressed its commitment to supporting sustainable investment and improving the welfare of fishermen.

The Marine and Coastal Aquaculture Study Program (BDLP) also made a significant contribution to the discussion. Fisheries science is considered essential, particularly in determining the quality of fishermen's catches, monitoring sustainable fishing practices, and ensuring the fish drying process meets shipping standards for national and international markets.
BDLP was represented by Ahmad Sajjad, S.Kel., M.Si., who conveyed the academic community's readiness to support the investment plan through technical assistance, scientific studies, and capacity building for fishermen and fisheries businesses. He also stated that the BDLP Study Program is developing an innovative IoT-based fish drying device that is expected to improve the quality, efficiency, and sales value of Selayar fishery products.
This visit is expected to be the first step in realizing fish processing investment in Selayar, which will increase the added value of local fishery products, create jobs, and strengthen Selayar's position as one of the leading fisheries centers in eastern Indonesia.
