Scholarship Support for Unhas Selayar Campus Through the Regional Government Program (Regent of Selayar: M. Natsir Ali)
JAKARTA — The Regent of Selayar Islands, Muh. Natsir Ali, conducted a coordination visit to the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia in Jakarta to advocate for scholarship support for students from Selayar, Monday (May 4, 2026).
During the visit, the Regent was accompanied by Ahmad Sajjad, who is also a lecturer in the Marine and Coastal Aquaculture Study Program (BDLP), Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University. Their presence reflected efforts to strengthen synergy between the regional government and higher education institutions in supporting the development of human resources in the Selayar Islands.
The Regent was received directly by the Head of the Center for Higher Education Funding and Assessment at the Ministry, Prof. Dr. Eng. Sandro Mihradi, S.T., M.Eng., IPM. During the meeting, the Regent expressed hopes that students from Selayar would receive scholarship support, particularly to continue their studies at the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University Selayar Campus.
According to Muh. Natsir Ali, scholarship support plays an important role in improving the quality of human resources, especially in the region’s leading sectors such as fisheries and tourism. He emphasized that the presence of Hasanuddin University’s Vocational Faculty in Selayar is a strategic opportunity to produce vocational graduates who are ready to contribute to regional development.
“Our hope is that the younger generation of Selayar can gain broader access to education through scholarship support, especially at the Hasanuddin University Vocational Campus in Selayar. This is important to create excellent human resources who are ready to develop the region, particularly in the fisheries and tourism sectors,” said Natsir Ali.
The ministry positively welcomed the proposal. The Head of the Center for Higher Education Funding and Assessment expressed readiness to facilitate a special scholarship program for students from Selayar, which will focus on supporting education at the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University Selayar Campus.
This program is expected to expand educational access for the younger generation of the Selayar Islands while strengthening collaboration between regional governments, the central government, and higher education institutions in developing excellent human resources based on the region’s maritime and fisheries potential.
