Signing of the MoU and Handover of Assets of the Selayar Islands Regency Government
Selayar, April 30, 2026 — The Regional Government of Selayar Islands Regency has officially established a partnership with Universitas Hasanuddin through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which was accompanied by the handover of regional assets to the university. This initiative represents a strategic step to strengthen collaboration in the development of education, research, and community service in the Selayar Islands region.
The event was attended directly by the Regent of Selayar Islands Regency, H. Muhammad Natsir Ali, along with Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) member Muh. Aksa Ramadhan, and the Head of the Tourism and Culture Office of Selayar Islands Regency, Nur Ihsan Chairudin. From the university, attendees included the Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc. (Rector of Universitas Hasanuddin), Prof. Ir. Sumbangan Baja, M.Phill., Ph.D. (the University Secretary), Prof. drg. Muhammad Ruslin, M.Kes., Ph.D., Sp.BM (K) (Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs), Prof. Dr. Ir. Muh. Restu, M.P. (the Dean of the Faculty of Vocational Studies), Prof. Dr. Ir. Zainuddin, M.Si. (the Vice Dean II of the Faculty of Vocational Studies), Dr. Dian Novita Sari (the Head of the Marine and Coastal Aquaculture Study Program), Nur Lisani, M.Sc (the Head of the Tourism Destination Study Program), as well as several experts in the field of marine science.
The MoU signing also marked the official transfer of assets from the Regional Government to Universitas Hasanuddin. These assets will be utilized as learning facilities for the Marine and Coastal Aquaculture and Tourism Destination study programs, as well as supporting infrastructure for research activities, particularly at the UNHAS Selayar Campus. The assets are expected to strengthen the campus’s role as a center for knowledge development based on local potential.
On this occasion, both parties also discussed strategic plans for the development of research in marine and plantation sectors. The focus will be on the sustainable utilization of coastal and marine resources, as well as optimizing regional plantation potential to create added value for local communities.
The Selayar Islands Regency Government expressed its commitment to continuously support the presence and development of Universitas Hasanuddin in the region as a key partner in improving human resource quality and fostering research-based economic development. Meanwhile, the university reaffirmed its readiness to contribute through the implementation of the tridharma of higher education with direct impact on society.
Through the MoU signing and asset handover, it is expected that the synergy between the Selayar Islands Regional Government and Universitas Hasanuddin will be further strengthened, fostering innovation and sustainable science-based development programs in the archipelagic region.
