Strengthening Student Readiness: Applied Bachelor’s Program in Tourism Destinations Holds Industry Internship Briefing

Makassar – The D4 Tourism Destination Study Program, Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University, held an Industry Internship Orientation to prepare students before undertaking practical work experience in the tourism industry.

The orientation began with participant registration, followed by an opening session led by the Master of Ceremony (MC), the singing of “Indonesia Raya” and the Hasanuddin University Hymn, and a prayer. The event was then officially opened by the Head of the D4 Tourism Destination Study Program, Nur Lisani, S.ST.Par., M.Sc., who also delivered the welcoming remarks to the participating students.

In her remarks, the Head of the Study Program emphasized the importance of the orientation as an initial stage in preparing students to understand their responsibilities, professional ethics, and readiness before carrying out their internship in the tourism industry. The internship is not only an opportunity for students to gain practical work experience but also a valuable opportunity to apply the competencies they have acquired during their studies to real-world professional settings.

Following the opening session, the students attended a session entitled “Professional Ethics and Workplace Culture in the Tourism Industry,” delivered by Aeni Nahdiati, S.Th.I., M.A. The session provided students with an understanding of the importance of ethics, professionalism, and adaptability to workplace cultures within the tourism industry.

The orientation continued with a session on “Professional Communication, Excellent Service, and Work Attitudes for Internship Students,” delivered by Andi Ilhzar Batarauleng, S.ST.Par., M.M. The session equipped students with knowledge of effective communication, customer and tourist service, and the professional attitudes expected during their internship.

The students then attended a session entitled “Occupational Safety, Discipline, Attendance, and Internship Regulations,” delivered by Firdha Nur Haedar, S.Tr.Par., M.M.Par. Through this session, students were guided to understand the importance of workplace safety, discipline, attendance, and compliance with regulations at their respective internship placements.

The following session was delivered by G Jagat Raya R An, S.Tr.Par., M.Sc., focusing on daily logbooks, monitoring, final reports, internship seminars, and required internship outputs. This session was essential in ensuring that students clearly understood the procedures for documenting and reporting their activities throughout the internship period through to its completion.

The orientation concluded with a question-and-answer and discussion session involving all speakers. This session provided students with an opportunity to raise questions, clarify various aspects of internship implementation, and discuss potential situations they may encounter during their placement in the tourism industry.

The Industry Internship Orientation officially concluded with a closing session and a group photograph involving the students, the Head of the Study Program, speakers, and the organizing committee.

Through this activity, the D4 Tourism Destination Study Program, Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University, hopes that students will be better prepared to enter the tourism industry with stronger knowledge, skills, professional attitudes, and a sense of responsibility. The orientation also serves as an important first step for students to maximize their internship experience as a learning process that strengthens their professional competencies and prepares them for future careers in the tourism industry.
