IWIP Provides Internship Opportunities for Unhas Extractive Metallurgy Students

The Vocational Faculty of Hasanuddin University (Unhas) has partnered with PT Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) to provide internship opportunities for students of the Extractive Metallurgy Technology Study Program. The partnership was marked by the signing of an agreement by the Dean of the Vocational Faculty of Unhas, Prof. Dr. Ir. M. Restu, M.P., and the General Manager of HRD at PT IWIP, Roslyn Sangaji, on January 21, 2025, at PT IWIP.

The event was attended by several representatives from Unhas, including the Vice Rector for Partnership, Innovation, Business, and Entrepreneurship, representatives of the Academic Senate, the leadership of the Vocational Faculty, the Head of the Study Program, and lecturers from the Extractive Metallurgy Technology Study Program.

PT IWIP was selected as one of the internship locations because it is a large industrial area involved in heavy metal processing. The company is located in Lelilef Village, Weda District, Central Halmahera Regency, North Maluku.

Through this partnership, students are expected to gain direct experience in the industrial sector and expand their knowledge of work processes in the field. PT IWIP also hopes that the partnership can be expanded into other areas, including Mandarin language learning.

The Dean of the Vocational Faculty explained that this partnership is one of the efforts to improve the quality of vocational education. The curriculum of the Vocational Faculty consists of approximately 30% theoretical learning and 70% industrial practice.

PT IWIP is one of the internship options for Extractive Metallurgy Technology students, particularly those in their sixth semester. Before undertaking their internship at PT IWIP, students will first participate in a three-month learning program at universities and industrial facilities in China. Afterward, they will return to continue their studies and industrial practice at PT IWIP.
