Students of the Unhas Vocational Animal Production Technology Program Undergo Practical Work, Learning from Diagnosis to Vaccination
MAKASSAR – Students of the Animal Production Technology Study Program, Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University, conducted a Livestock Health Management Practicum on Wednesday (November 27, 2025) as part of their learning process in the field of livestock health and management. This activity aimed to improve students' understanding and skills in the practical application of livestock health aspects.
During the practicum, students received hands-on learning through several key topics. The activity began with blood sampling and collection of livestock blood samples as a basis for health examinations and disease diagnosis. Students also learned livestock vaccination techniques, including the use of live and killed vaccines as a disease prevention measure.
In addition, students stained and observed blood slides, specifically to identify erythrocytes and blood protozoa, which play a crucial role in the diagnosis of parasitic diseases. The practicum also included necropsies and an introduction to the anatomy of livestock organ systems, to deepen students' understanding of organ structure and function in relation to livestock health.
The entire series of practicum activities were carried out in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for livestock health practicums, while maintaining the principles of animal welfare, biosafety, and laboratory occupational safety and health.
The Livestock Health Management practicum was coordinated by Drh. Sri Helda Wulandari, M.Si., as the Practicum Coordinator. Under this coordination, the activities ran smoothly and in accordance with the established learning outcomes.
Through this practicum, students of the Animal Production Technology Study Program, Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University, are expected to improve their basic skills in disease diagnosis, disease prevention through vaccination, and recognition of livestock organ systems, as essential tools for the world of work in the livestock and animal health sectors.
