BULUKUMBA — The Department of Indonesian Literature, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Hasanuddin University (FIB Unhas), conducted a training session on media-based learning models at SMAN 8 Bulukumba on Monday, October 6, 2025. This initiative is part of the university’s Community Service Program aimed at enhancing the quality of education in partner schools.

The training covered two main topics: the implementation of the Jigsaw Learning Model in Language and Literature, and the use of language varieties across different media platforms. The first session featured Prof. AB Takko, Prof. Munira Hasjim, and St. Nursa’adah as speakers, moderated by Rismayanti. The second session was led by Prof. Nurhayati, Faisal Oddang, and Ilham, with Syahwan Alfianto as moderator.

Ikhwan M Said, a lecturer in Indonesian Literature at Unhas and the program coordinator, explained that the training was a direct application of faculty research findings implemented in schools.

“SMAN 8 Bulukumba is one of the target schools for applying media-based learning models. We believe this innovation will have a positive impact on education,” he stated.

He emphasized that the initiative is not merely a transfer of knowledge, but a collaborative space for educators. “We’re not here to lecture, but to complement each other and learn together,” said the Doctor of Linguistics.

Muslimat, Head of the Indonesian Literature Department at FIB Unhas, described the program as an academic responsibility in serving the community. “This initiative will continue with the involvement of designated lecturers and working groups,” she affirmed.

Muslimat expressed hope that media-based learning approaches could be applied across various subjects. “This model encourages students to think critically, communicate effectively, and express ideas creatively. Social media, when used wisely, can also serve as an effective learning tool,” she explained.

She also highlighted the importance of synergy between universities and schools. “Through this community service program, we aim to enrich teaching methods, broaden teachers’ perspectives, and improve the quality of both teaching and student learning,” she added.

Ansar, Head of UPT SMAN 8 Bulukumba, also expressed appreciation for the program. He noted that the participants were selected students from various school organizations such as OSIS, PMR, KIR, and Paskibraka.

“This is a valuable opportunity for us. Many schools could have been chosen, yet SMAN 8 Bulukumba was entrusted as a partner. We are truly grateful for this trust,” he said. (*)
