New Students Join Hasanuddin University’s Department of Mathematics in 2026

The Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Hasanuddin University, welcomed 267 new students in the 2026 Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) program. This year, Hasanuddin University admitted a total of 10,401 new students, of whom 694 joined FMIPA. This figure placed FMIPA as the faculty with the fifth-highest number of new students at Hasanuddin University.
Of the total new FMIPA students, 267, or 38.47 percent, are students of the Department of Mathematics — meaning nearly four out of every ten new FMIPA students in 2026 come from the Department of Mathematics. These 267 new students are distributed across three study programs. The Mathematics Study Program admitted 75 students, consisting of 47 women and 28 men. The Information Systems Study Program admitted 116 students, with 58 women and 58 men. Meanwhile, the Actuarial Science Study Program admitted 76 students, consisting of 36 women and 40 men.
In his report, the Chairperson of the Department of Mathematics PKKMB Committee expressed pride and extended a warm welcome to all new students, who are now part of the extended family of the Department of Mathematics, Hasanuddin University. New students are expected to see PKKMB not merely as an orientation activity, but as the beginning of their academic journey, character development, and the process of building togetherness within the Department of Mathematics. The activity also served as a momentum to introduce the academic environment, the academic community, and the culture of learning to new students before they begin their lectures.
The committee also expressed its appreciation to the university and faculty leadership, the department, lecturers, the organizing committee, mentors, and all parties who supported the 2026 PKKMB program of the Department of Mathematics, Hasanuddin University. With the arrival of 267 new faces, the Department of Mathematics, Hasanuddin University, hopes to nurture a generation of students who can grow, achieve, collaborate, and make positive contributions throughout their studies.
