Electives

The Doctoral Program in Indonesian Literature offers two main areas of concentration (specialization) to facilitate students' research focus. Students can choose the path that best suits their interests and dissertation plans.

Both specializations share the same foundational courses in Semester 1 (Theory Construction, Research Methods, Advanced Linguistic & Literary Theories). The difference in focus is emphasized through specialized courses in Semester 2.

The final stage (Semesters 3-4) follows a common path for both, focusing on the Research Results Seminar, Publication, and Dissertation.


1. Indonesian Literature Specialization

This specialization focuses on the in-depth study of theories, criticism, and contemporary issues in literary studies. Specialization courses in Semester 2 include:

  • Contemporary Issues in Indonesian Literature

  • Anthropology of Literature (Elective)

  • Philosophy of Language and Literature

  • Contemporary Literary Criticism

  • Stylistics (Elective)

  • Semantics (Elective)

2. Indonesian Language Specialization

This specialization focuses on the in-depth study of linguistic theories, phonology, morphosyntax, and language planning. Specialization courses in Semester 2 include:

  • Contemporary Theories of Indonesian Morphosyntax

  • Geographical Variations of the Indonesian Language (Elective)

  • Philosophy of Language and Literature

  • Contemporary Theories of Indonesian Phonology

  • Language Planning (Elective)
