FIB Unhas — The Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) has once again become an epicenter for global academic discussion through the organization of The 6th International Conference on Linguistics and Cultural Studies (ICLC-6). Held at the Prof. Mattulada Hall on Wednesday (12/11/2025), the conference brought together dozens of international academics to dissect multidisciplinary challenges and innovations in language and cultural studies.

The conference was officially opened by the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs of Unhas, Prof. drg. Muhammad Ruslin, M.Kes., Ph.D., SpBM(K). In his opening remarks, he emphasized the importance of cross-national collaboration amidst global changes. “A forum like ICLC is not just a scholarly forum, but also a bridge to build cross-national understanding,” he stated.

The opening proceeded solemnly, interspersed with an artistic touch through a performance of the ‘Empat Etnis’ (Four Ethnicities) dance by the SPaSI IMSI KMFIB art troupe. This dance depicted the cultural harmony of South Sulawesi (Makassar, Bugis, Mandar, and Toraja), providing a rich cultural context to the academic forum.

With the theme “Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Linguistics, Literature, Culture, and Teaching: Challenges and Innovations,” ICLC-6 featured experts from around the world. Keynote speakers included prominent academics such as Eguchi Maki, Ph.D. (University of Tsukuba, Japan) and Prof. Wan Wen Bin (Nanchang University, China) attending in person, as well as Prof. Mokhtar (University of Malaya, Malaysia) and Abdulraya Panaemalae (Walailak University, Thailand) joining online.

Also attending were experts from national universities as well as a roster of professors from FIB Unhas, making the forum rich in perspectives.

The Committee Chair, Prof. Dr. Nurhayati, M.Hum., explained that the theme was chosen to highlight the connection of linguistic and cultural studies with other disciplines, such as information technology, law, and social sciences. “We hope this conference generates brilliant ideas that enrich knowledge and simultaneously strengthen cross-national academic networks,” she said.

Following the opening, the conference continued with two interactive plenary sessions, reaffirming Unhas’s commitment as a center of excellence for the development of linguistics and cultural studies in the Asian region.
