MATEMATIKA S2

History

The Department of Mathematics is one of the departments within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The Department of Mathematics, formerly known as the Mathematics Department, was established in 1983. Over time and in response to changing needs, in 1995 the Department of Mathematics expanded by establishing two undergraduate programs, namely the Mathematics Program and the Statistics Program. Subsequently, in 2008, the Department of Mathematics proposed a Master's Program in Mathematics to keep pace with the times and global needs for mathematics in responding to knowledge and technology. The Master of Mathematics Study Program is the second Master's Study Program in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences after the Master of Chemistry Study Program. The Department of Mathematics, which was originally designed to serve teaching at Unhas, is now called upon to prepare better human resources in the field of mathematics to respond to the challenges of the times. The Master of Mathematics Study Program has been approved for operation by the Director General of Higher Education based on Decree No. 1919/D2/2/2008 dated August 1, 2008, and has obtained a permit to operate from the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of National Education, based on Decree No. 66/D/T/2009 dated January 20, 2009. Based on this, the Master of Mathematics Study Program began accepting new students and conducting academic activities in the odd semester of the 2008/2009 academic year. From 2012 to 2017, the Master of Mathematics Program still received a B accreditation rating from BAN-PT, and has been re-accredited with an A rating from BAN PT based on Decree No. 3363/SK/BAN -PT/Akred/M/IX/2017, which is valid from September 12, 2017, to September 12, 2022. To date, the Master of Mathematics Study Program has graduated no less than 100 students.

Current and Future Orientation of the Study Program

  1. A strong foundation in mathematics, such as analysis, algebra, and applied mathematics, is expected to anticipate the trend of globalization, which will shift the community's lifestyle from agriculture and traditional trade to a modern industrial and commercial society, as can be seen in the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Community, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), and the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA).
  2. The competency-based curriculum is based on a design that provides the widest possible learning experience for students in developing their abilities to be knowledgeable, skilled, responsible, and characterful.
