Thesis Proposal Seminar, Department of Archaeology, Hasanuddin University
Makassar, 1 April 2026 – The Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Hasanuddin University, organised a Thesis Proposal Seminar as part of the academic process for final-year students. This event served as an important platform for students to present their research proposals and receive feedback from their examiners.

Thirteen students will present research proposals on a variety of topics, ranging from Japanese-era archaeological remains in Maros, the representation of Minangkabau architecture as a cultural heritage site, to a study of traditional burial chambers in North Toraja. Other topics include the collection of royal seals in Bone, colonial architecture in Toraja churches, and a study of the deterioration of traditional Tongkonan buildings.
This seminar features a panel of examiners from the Department of Archaeology at Hasanuddin University, namely Prof. Dr. Akin Duli, M.A., Dr. Muh. Nur, M.A., Dr. Rosmawati, M.Si., Dr. Supiardi, M.A., Dr. Khadijah Thahir Muda, M.Si., Drs. Laode Muh. Aksa, M.Hum., Dr. Yadi Mulyadi, M.A., Suryatman, S.S., M.Hum., Riska Fardila Nazara, S.S., M.Hum., Yusriana, S.S., S.M.A., and Dott. Erwin Mansyur U. Saraka, M.Sc., Arch., M.Sc.
In addition, this seminar also involved examiners from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), namely Dr M. Irfan Mahmud, M.Hum., Dr Syahruddin Mansyur, S.S., M.Hum., and Fakhri, S.S., M.A., who were expected to provide a national research perspective on the development of archaeological studies.
The Head of the Department of Archaeology, Dr Yadi Mulyadi, S.S., M.A., emphasised that this proposal seminar is not merely a formal academic stage, but also a shared learning space. “Students learn to account for their research ideas, whilst lecturers provide critical perspectives to ensure the resulting research possesses high academic quality and cultural relevance,” he said.
Through the organisation of this event, the Department of Archaeology at Hasanuddin University hopes to continue producing research that contributes to the advancement of knowledge as well as the preservation of the nation’s cultural heritage.
