FIB Unhas French Literature Program Conducts Community Outreach: Introducing French Language and Culture to High School Students
Makassar — The French Literature Study Program of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas), successfully organized a community service activity entitled Introduction to French Language for High School Students, held over three days from Monday to Wednesday, May 18–20, 2026.
The program reached four senior high schools across South Sulawesi: SMAN 1 Wajo, SMAN 12 Wajo, SMAN 3 Palopo, and SMAN 6 Palopo. This series of school visits reflects the French Literature Study Program's ongoing commitment to community engagement, bringing the richness of French language and literature to the younger generation.
Over the course of three days, students were welcomed with a range of engaging and educational activities. The program opened with an introductory session on the French Literature Study Program at FIB Unhas, offering students a comprehensive overview of academic prospects, career opportunities, and the program's distinctive strengths.
This was followed by a basic French language learning session facilitated directly by a native speaker. Through hands-on guidance, students experienced an authentic and interactive approach to learning; covering everyday greetings, pronunciation, and practical vocabulary.
The interactive games session proved to be the highlight of each visit, generating the greatest enthusiasm among participants. Designed to introduce French language and culture in an enjoyable way, this activity-based learning method proved highly effective in sparking student interest and improving retention.
The response from students across all four schools was outstanding. Their curiosity about French language, literature, and culture was unmistakable; from lively questions and active participation in games to enthusiastic attempts at speaking French phrases.
This outreach activity is hoped to broaden students' horizons toward the Francophone world, while serving as a first step for those interested in pursuing French language and literature at the university level. The French Literature Study Program of FIB Unhas remains committed to meaningful and impactful community engagement.
