MKPK Sharing Session at the Department of French Literature FIB UnhasEncourages Students to Build Competencies Beyond Their Study Program
The Department of French Literature, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Hasanuddin University (Unhas), held a sharing session titled Sharing MKPK on Tuesday, June 24, 2026. The event brought together students who had successfully completed their credit obligations through the Mata Kuliah Penguatan Kompetensi (MKPK) — Competency Strengthening Courses — pathway to share their experiences with their peers.
MKPK is a curriculum innovation unique to Hasanuddin University that requires students to complete a set number of credits through activities outside their own study program. For students in non-health disciplines, this amounts to 20 credits. Eligible activities include internships at institutions or companies, community service programs, and active participation in student organizations or extracurricular units (UKM). The program is designed to equip students with 21st-century competencies, preparing them for the workforce, industry, or even entrepreneurship.
During the session, speakers shared their firsthand accounts of how they planned and carried out their MKPK activities — from choosing the right type of activity and navigating the credit recognition process, to the challenges they encountered along the way. Experiences covered a range of pathways, including internships at cultural institutions and media organizations, as well as active involvement in student bodies within Unhas.
The speakers also stressed the importance of planning early. Completing 20 MKPK credits requires considerable time and commitment, making it essential for students to map out a strategy so that their off-campus activities can run in parallel with their coursework at the Department of French Literature. Regular consultation with academic advisors was cited as a key step in this process.
It is hoped that this sharing session will become a regular departmental event, giving every student a more concrete foundation for planning their MKPK fulfillment in a structured and effective way.
