Environmental Engineering Student of Hasanuddin University Joins Duta Minerba Goes to Site 2025 at PT Kideco Jaya Agung

Nur Qalby Salsabila (Student ID D131221036), an undergraduate student of the Environmental Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University, participated in Duta Minerba Goes to Site 2025, a national program that provides young people with first-hand learning experiences in the mineral and coal mining sector and promotes the implementation of sustainable mining practices.
As part of the program, Qalby participated in a site visit at PT Kideco Jaya Agung from November 24–28, 2025. The activity provided an opportunity to gain first-hand insights into mining operations and various environmental management practices implemented as part of the company's operations.
Learning First-Hand about Sustainable Mining Practices
Duta Minerba Goes to Site is a program organized by the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia. The program serves as a learning platform for university students to gain a closer understanding of the mineral and coal mining industry through direct field experience.
Throughout the program, participants were introduced to various aspects of the mining industry, including the implementation of Good Mining Practice (GMP), environmental management, and Community Development and Empowerment Programs. The site visit approach enabled participants to gain a more contextual understanding of how these principles are implemented in actual mining operations.
For Environmental Engineering students, such experience is closely related to their academic field of study. Direct exposure to the industrial environment provides broader perspectives on environmental management, natural resource utilization, and the challenges of balancing industrial activities with environmental sustainability.
Strengthening Students' Competencies through Industry Exposure
During the site visit at PT Kideco Jaya Agung, Qalby had the opportunity to gain a closer understanding of the working environment and operational activities within the mining industry. The experience served as a valuable learning opportunity to connect the theories and concepts acquired in the classroom with real-world industrial practices.
Qalby expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to participate in Duta Minerba Goes to Site 2025, highlighting the valuable insights and experience she gained throughout the program.
"This program has been a valuable experience for me because I had the opportunity to see firsthand how mining activities are carried out in the field. I also gained new insights into the importance of environmental management in supporting responsible and sustainable mining practices. This experience has provided meaningful learning as an Environmental Engineering student," said Nur Qalby.
Supporting Students' Professional Development
The Environmental Engineering Study Program at Hasanuddin University continues to encourage students to actively participate in academic, professional, and personal development activities that broaden their learning experiences beyond the classroom.
Qalby's participation in Duta Minerba Goes to Site 2025 represents one of the learning experiences that supports the development of students' competencies, particularly in understanding the application of Environmental Engineering principles within the mining industry.
The Head of the Environmental Engineering Study Program at Hasanuddin University expressed appreciation for the student's participation in the program.
"We appreciate Nur Qalby Salsabila's participation in Duta Minerba Goes to Site 2025. Direct learning experiences in the industrial sector are an important part of developing Environmental Engineering students' competencies. Through programs such as this, students can better understand the practical application of the knowledge they acquire during their studies while broadening their perspectives on environmental management across various industrial sectors," he stated.
The participation of an Environmental Engineering student from Hasanuddin University in Duta Minerba Goes to Site 2025 at PT Kideco Jaya Agung is expected to strengthen students' academic competencies, professional perspectives, and readiness to enter the workforce.
Through direct learning opportunities in the industrial sector, the Environmental Engineering Study Program at Hasanuddin University remains committed to providing students with opportunities to develop relevant competencies and practical experiences, preparing them to contribute to environmental management and sustainable development.
