Community Service Program: Provision of Clean Water for the Community of Tuara Subdistrict, Enrekang District, Enrekang Regency
The Department of Mining Engineering, Hasanuddin University, conducted a Community Service Program (PkM)entitled “Provision of Clean Water for the Community of Tuara Subdistrict, Enrekang District, Enrekang Regency” from 11–13 September 2026.
The activity was carried out in response to the limited availability of clean water faced by the community of Tuara Subdistrict. The majority of residents have traditionally relied on rainwater collection systems to meet their daily domestic needs. This dependence makes the community vulnerable to water shortages, particularly during the dry season or periods of low rainfall. Such conditions may also affect sanitation and environmental health.
As an effort to identify a more sustainable alternative water source, groundwater represents one of the potential resources that can be developed. Therefore, the Community Service Program focused on identifying potential locations for groundwater well development through geoelectrical surveys and groundwater mapping.
The program was led by Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Muhammad Ramli, M.T., a lecturer in the Department of Mining Engineering, together with Asta Arjunoarwan Hatta, S.T., M.T. and Dr. Eng. Purwanto, S.T., M.T. The program also involved all lecturers from the Department of Mining Engineering, Hasanuddin University, as well as several undergraduate (S1) and master's (S2) students in Mining Engineering.
Through this activity, the team is expected to provide preliminary information on groundwater potential in Tuara Subdistrict, which can serve as a reference for local government and relevant stakeholders in planning sustainable clean water infrastructure for the community.
