Genesis of Mineral Deposits Field Trip

On May 29–31, 2026, the Mining Engineering Study Program at the Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University, conducted a field study for the course “Genesis of Mineral Deposits” in the Sangkaropi area, Toraja Regency. The activity was attended by approximately 87 students and supervised by the course instructors: Prof. Dr. Ir. Irzal Nur, M.T., Ir. Andi Febbi Alvionita M., S.T., M.T., and Arif, S.T., M.T.
During the activity, students studied Volcanogenic Massive Sulfide (VMS) mineral deposits, which are a type of massive sulfide mineral deposit formed as a result of submarine volcanic activity. In addition, the students also observed alteration minerals and identified metallic minerals found at the site, such as galena, pyrite, chalcopyrite, and sphalerite. The field observations then continued with volcanic rocks in the form of tuff, as well as zeolite deposits formed as a result of the weathering of tuff.
