Guest Lecture - The Nickel Journey: From Laterite Ore to High-Value Products

The Department of Mining Engineering held a public lecture entitled “The Nickel Journey: From Laterite Ore to High-Value Products” on Thursday, August 27, 2026. The event featured Ardi Alam Jabir, S.T., M.Eng., HRGA Manager at PT QMB New Energy Materials, as the speaker, with Andi Febbi Alvionita M., S.T., M.T. serving as the moderator. The public lecture was attended by students from the Mining Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering Study Programs, as well as Prof. Dr. Sufriadin, S.T., M.T. The event provided students with an opportunity to gain insights into the development of the nickel industry, ranging from the characteristics and potential of nickel deposits to the processing and utilization of nickel into high-value products.
In his presentation, Ardi Alam Jabir discussed nickel deposits and opportunities for their future development. The discussion provided an overview of the potential of nickel resources and the importance of understanding the development of nickel demand and utilization in the industry. The speaker then explained various products resulting from nickel ore processing and the added value that can be generated through such processing, emphasizing the importance of developing processed nickel products to support the increased economic value of nickel as a commodity.
