Mining Engineering Department Holds “Geomin Goes to Campus” Guest Lecture with PT ANTAM (Persero) Tbk
The Mining Engineering Department held a guest lecture titled Geomin Goes to Campus in collaboration with PT ANTAM (Persero) Tbk on October 15, 2026, at the Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University (Unhas). The event carried the theme “Discover Resources. Define Reserves. Build The Future.”, emphasizing the importance of exploration, resource estimation, and reserve estimation in supporting the planned and sustainable management of mineral resources.
The event began with remarks from the Secretary of the Mining Engineering Department, Dr.Eng. Rini Novrianti Sutardjo Tui, S.T., M.T., M.B.A., who highlighted the importance of guest lectures as a means of enriching students’ knowledge through direct insights from industry practitioners. The event continued with the presentation of a plaque to PT ANTAM (Persero) Tbk as a token of appreciation and a symbol of collaboration between the Mining Engineering Department of Unhas and the mining industry.
The guest lecture featured six speakers from PT ANTAM, covering three major commodities: nickel, bauxite, and gold. Muhammad Chandra RM presented Nickel Exploration and Resource Estimation, covering the formation of nickel laterite deposits, exploration and drilling stages, sample analysis, data quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC), and resource modeling and reporting. Subsequently, Herlando Juniansyah PP discussed Nickel Reserve Estimation, covering the use of resource models, cut-off grade determination, pit design, production scheduling, and mine operational planning.
For bauxite, Bayu Ajie Arrasyid presented Bauxite Resource Estimation, covering exploration stages, data validation, statistical and geostatistical analysis, geological modeling, and resource estimation and classification. Meanwhile, Juki Bodi Sembada delivered a presentation on Bauxite Reserve Estimation, focusing on mine optimization, production scheduling, equipment selection, cost analysis, and planning for bauxite washing processes and water requirements.
The discussion on gold was delivered by Bayuaji Jokosatriyo P through a presentation on Gold Resource Estimation, which covered exploration stages, data processing, geological interpretation, estimation, validation, and the preparation of the final block model. Meanwhile, Okta Christal Situmorang discussed Gold Reserve Estimation, including the factors affecting reserve feasibility, mining methods, and mine planning through optimization, design, and production scheduling.
All presentations were moderated by three representatives from the Mining Engineering Department of Unhas: Ir. A. Febbi Alvionita, S.T., M.T., Arif, S.T., M.T., and Muhammad Zahran Mubarok, S.T., M.Eng. The event continued with a question-and-answer session, providing students and lecturers with the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers. Participants who asked questions received souvenirs from PT ANTAM.
In recognition of their contributions to sharing knowledge and experience, each speaker received a certificate and plaque from the Mining Engineering Department. The enthusiasm of students and lecturers was also evident during the discussion and question-and-answer sessions, with participants who asked questions receiving souvenirs from PT ANTAM (Persero) Tbk. The event concluded with an interactive quiz based on the topics presented, with the three best-performing participants receiving souvenirs in recognition of their participation.
Through Geomin Goes to Campus, the Mining Engineering Department of Unhas hopes that students will broaden their knowledge and deepen their understanding of exploration, resource and reserve estimation, and mine planning for nickel, bauxite, and gold. The event is also expected to strengthen ties between academia and the mining industry while providing students with an opportunity to gain a closer understanding of industry practices and workplace challenges.
