Basic Geology Field Trip for the Class of 2026

On October 24, 2026, the Mining Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University, conducted a field trip for the 2026 cohort of Basic Geology students in the Bantimurung area and at a quartz sandstone quarry in Mallawa, Camba, Maros Regency. The activity was attended by approximately 102 students and laboratory assistants, accompanied by three lecturers: Prof. Dr. Ir. Irzal Nur, M.T., Ir. Andi Febbi Alvionita M., S.T., M.T., and Arif, S.T., M.T.

During the field trip, students explored various aspects of basic geology through direct field observations. These included learning about caves and the formation of stalactites and stalagmites in the Bantimurung area, identifying sedimentary rocks such as limestone and igneous rocks such as diorite, and learning about non-metallic mineral mining activities at a quarry. The activity continued with a long-distance hike to introduce students to various rock formations found in South Sulawesi and their constituent rocks. Through this field trip, students were expected to develop a better understanding of rock characteristics, geological conditions, and their relationship to mining activities through direct observation.
