BDLP Laboratory Assistant Graduates from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu
Malaysia — A proud achievement comes from the Marine and Coastal Aquaculture (BDLP) Study Program, Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University. One of its laboratory assistants, Muh. Fatratullah Muhsin, S.Pi., M.Si., has officially graduated with a Master of Science degree from the Institute of Tropical Aquaculture and Fisheries, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT).
In his thesis, Fatratullah focused on the topic “Utilization of Sea Cucumber Waste as a Feed Additive to Enhance Crab Reproduction”, emphasizing efforts to improve productivity and sustainability in crab aquaculture through the use of natural, marine-based waste materials. This research marks an important step in promoting eco-friendly feed innovation within tropical aquaculture systems.
His study demonstrated the potential of sea cucumber waste as an effective feed additive capable of enhancing reproductive performance in crabs without causing negative environmental impacts. The findings are expected to be applicable in aquaculture practices across Indonesia, particularly in coastal areas rich in marine biodiversity.
Fatratullah expressed his gratitude for the achievement and his commitment to continue contributing to research and the development of sustainable aquaculture practices within the BDLP program. “This study has given me new insights into how marine waste can have high value when processed through scientific and practical approaches,” he said.
This accomplishment reflects the strong support of the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University, in strengthening the capacity of its human resources—both lecturers and laboratory staff—to enhance the quality of education and research in the field of marine and tropical aquaculture.
