BDLP Study Program and the Dean of the Faculty of Vocational Studies, UNHAS, Hold a Strategic Meeting with the Selayar Islands Regional Government

Selayar, November 4, 2025 — In an effort to strengthen synergy between vocational education and local government, the Dean of the Faculty of Vocational Studies at Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), Prof. Dr. Ir. Muh. Restu, M.P., led a coordination meeting at the office of the Regent of Selayar Islands Regency with Regent Muhm Natsir Ali and Vice Regent Muhtar, M.M. The meeting was also attended by the Head of the BDLP Study Program along with members of the UNHAS vocational academic community, the Head of the Tourism Office, representatives from the Marine and Fisheries Office, and the Head of the UPTD SMA/SMK in Selayar Islands Regency.

On this occasion, Prof. Restu stated that the visit was not only a courtesy meeting but also a concrete step to strengthen cooperation between the Selayar Islands Regional Government and UNHAS in developing human resources through vocational education. “In the future, the UNHAS vocational campus in Selayar is expected to continue growing to facilitate local students with better access to higher education,” he said.

One of the main points discussed was the allocation of a special quota for students from Selayar. Prof. Restu explained that this year UNHAS has provided a special quota of 80 students, distributed across two leading programs: Fisheries and Tourism. This quota will continue to increase in line with regional needs and capacity.

During the meeting, the Head of the Marine and Coastal Aquaculture Study Program, Dr. Dian Novita Sari, A.Md., S.Pi., M.Si., stated, “All graduates of the first cohort of the Applied Bachelor (STr.) BDLP program come from Selayar and have successfully built careers in the fisheries sector at both national and international levels. Students from Selayar who study in BDLP have graduated in less than four years, with one becoming the fastest and best graduate in the Faculty of Vocational Studies. This shows that students from Selayar are able to compete with those from other regions.”

Furthermore, the meeting also discussed opportunities for strategic collaboration in regional development. One of the key initiatives includes the development of the Tamameleong area as a tourism resort in collaboration with Hotel UNHAS, as well as the formulation of a carbon trade concept based on the marine and fisheries potential of Selayar, through expert teams and the establishment of a dedicated working group.

In response, Regent Natsir Ali expressed deep appreciation for UNHAS’s support in advancing education and improving the quality of human resources in Selayar. “We are very grateful for UNHAS’s concern and commitment. The development of vocational education is a major investment for the future of Selayar,” he stated.

The Selayar Islands Regency Government affirmed its commitment to continuously support productive partnerships, particularly in enhancing the competencies of the younger generation to seize employment opportunities in the region’s leading sectors. This aligns with the Asta Cita vision and supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in quality education and sustainable development.

Through this meeting, the Faculty of Vocational Studies at UNHAS and the Selayar Islands Regional Government reaffirm their commitment to delivering vocational education that is relevant, accessible, and responsive to local development needs.
