BDLP (Vocational Faculty) and BDP (FIKP) Unhas Collaborate to Conduct Community Service
Selayar, July 14, 2026 – The Applied Bachelor’s Study Program in Marine and Coastal Aquaculture (BDLP) at the Vocational Faculty of Hasanuddin University collaborated with the Aquaculture Study Program (BDP) at the Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries (FIKP) of Hasanuddin University to conduct a community service activity at the Selayar Campus of the Vocational Faculty on Tuesday (July 14).
Local community members and aquaculture farmers participated in the event, which aimed to enhance their knowledge and skills regarding the application of innovations in shrimp farming. Centered on the theme of utilizing buah merah (red fruit) as a functional feed ingredient, the activity introduced a feed innovation designed to support the growth and health of Vannamei shrimp while utilizing a natural resource with potential for sustainable development.
The session was led by Dr. Marlina Achmad, S.Pi., M.Si., who explained the concept of functional feed and the benefits of buah merah as an additive for Vannamei shrimp feed. She highlighted that the nutritional content and bioactive compounds in buah merah have the potential to improve shrimp growth performance and boost immunity against various environmental conditions encountered in aquaculture.
Following the presentation, the event proceeded with a hands-on practical session on producing the functional feed. Participants were given the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the ingredients, observe the feed formulation and mixing process, and participate in shaping the feed into a form ready for use in Vannamei shrimp farming. This practical component provided direct experience, making the material easier to understand and apply. Participant enthusiasm was evident throughout the event, reflected in the numerous questions asked and active engagement during the practical session.
This activity aims to facilitate the real-world application of university research and innovations by the community and aquaculture farmers, thereby boosting Vannamei shrimp farming productivity and fostering the development of more sustainable aquaculture practices.
